ASCENDANCE
ASSESSMENT BRIEF: CREATE A LINEAR NARRATIVE WITH CLIPS FROM DIFFERENT FILMS
This film explores the experience of growing up and figuring out what your purpose in life is. How do we respond to the first deceptions we encounter as we grow up? How do our expectations shift?
EDITED IN PREMIERE PRO
No filming was required for this short, yet editing demanded a narrative. I created a storyline of the story I wanted to tell, dividing it into acts and shifting points. This helped me collect footage from films that depicted the emotions I sought (whether through actions, quotes, expressions, composition, etc.). Once footage was organised and logged, I started assembling the narrative based on the loose initial storyline while seeing where the footage led me.
As I wanted the film to feel cohesive, despite being composed of different sources, I used quotes from various films to create a sort of "conversation" and "voice-over" between them that unified the different clips and appealed to a universal experience rather than a specific character. Finding motives throughout the clips (flowers, water and VHS) allowed me to depict this collectiveness and unify the clips through style.
BETWEEN US
OBSERVATIONAL SHORT DOCUMENTARY
Exploring female relationships and acquired roles through phone conversations between female relatives.
Heavily inspired by Chantal Akerman's work, especially 'Letters From Home'.
EDITED IN DAVINCI RESOLVE
Simple editing and static shots that aim to focus our attention in the women's words, which appear subtitled.
Shots of interior home spaces directly reference the "household", making us wonder who inhabits it, and in which fashion.
Fly-on the wall style documentary. Minimal editing yet cuts and conversation transitions had to be made imperceptible to sustain natural style.
VIDEO ESSAY: EDITING ADDICTION
VIDEOESSAY
Close analysis of the editing techniques used to depict addiction in a sequence from Requiem for a Dream.
The videoessay is specifically focused on the split-screen, rhythm and patterns of the specific sequence: rather than the overall style (i.e. hip-hop montage, sound effects) to fit the assessment brief and time constraints.
EDITED IN PREMIERE PRO
I only used footage and sound effects taken from Requiem for a Dream to imitate its style - based on "sampling" its own footage to create patterns that re-iterate the repetitive and claustrophobic world the characters are trapped in.

I also focused on depicting all information visually to make it more engaging and avoid over saturation of information in the voice-over.
COMEDY SHORT FILM
Sketch hypothesising how Mae West would have taken over Tinder.
HEAD EDITOR. USING PREMIERE PRO
Ensembling the montage, creating the split screens and Tinder effects, and color-grading in Premiere Pro.
Style of editing focused on continuity editing and motion graphic design.
CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND GRAPHIC DESIGNER
Made storyboards, planned the settings and costumes, and directed camera operations.
I was also charge of the graphics found in the sketch (the Tinder notifications, profiles and titles, book covers) which I did using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

MAE WEST IN TINDER
WITHIN INTIMACY
EXPERIMENTAL SHORT FILM
Exploring different types of intimacy and questioning what constitutes it
Using our own footage and found footage we repurposed through editing and montage.
EDITED IN PREMIERE PRO
Editing focused on repurposing footage and isolating images and movements to bring attention to textures and movements.
The film had no storyboard nor script. Editing was highly intuitive and experimental, as we constructed the themes, fragments and pace of the film whilst editing.
COLLABORATIVE ROLES
The creative and production process was highly collaborative. The four team members worked closely together in all parts of the film process, without any set roles, therefore all equally contributing to the pitching of ideas, shooting, editing and post-production.
